This years derby has a full house of 18 contenders which include a few pretenders as well. With everyone talking about the luck of the race and draw numbers, one man who will not be worried too much about it would be none other that Pesi himself who knows his filly Jacqueline has a good turn of foot and can come and win this race from anywhere. Unlike Jacqueline Paddy has a lot to think about and that's the reason he has mentioned that it would be the Jockey who would play a major role if Gypsy Magic has to win this race. Firstly the filly is temperamental. Secondly she drifted out badly in Mumbai and lastly if ridden without cover on the outside of the field she will run out of steam like in the fillies trial stakes. Coz of all these reasons Paddy has decided to get the best man available to ride her in Richard Hughes.
All said and done Jacqueline should in this race as she is a filly with a lot of class and looks like a good type of a horse unlike her main threat Gypsy Magic.

Saturday 27th June Bangalore races
Unfortunately I am running short of time as I am leaving Dubai for my holidays and will be in Bangalore and Mysore for a month from tomorrow on. Hence might not have time to post my selections tomorrow and so am posting them without having a look at the declarations.
1. Walter has no opposition in this race on handicap. But this stable being a gambling stable cannot be backed with conviction unless the connections back the horse and there is a positive change in the odds during race time.
2. Polish patriot for win in the 4th race. Although running over 1800m for the first time, the manner of debut win was very impressive and should have no problems in beating Arabian prince and Fair options.
3. Star Wave in the 6th race probably needs blinkers as per her last run where she would not pass salsera after running alongside her on tight reins. She also has a habit of being very inconsistent with her runs. Hence Balance De Power being the other worthy contender should be backed Win and SHP in this race.

Sunday 21st June Bangalore Races
Saturday was a good day for punters if the bookies have to be believed. Except for a couple of races well backed horses were at the fore. If only Md. Shafiq had waited a few meters before releasing his grip on the reins I am guessing Timeless Treasure would have made it. But he was too anxious to have the winner.
Be that as it may, here are the selections of Sunday.

Saturday June 20th Bangalore Racing
Firstly the article on BTC being shifted is pretty demotivating for racing enthusiasts like myself as I am sure MRC will not be able to handle a huge racing calender in case of racing activities being shifted there and the sport would on the whole end up being the loser. It is very unfortunate that at this moment when the BTC authorities need to take a firm stand against the CM they have in fact succumbed to the unrelentless pressure applied by the government which only shows their resolve in keeping the sport alive.
I am afraid the only way out now seems to be as Mr. Gosavi has pointed out a PIL.
Coming back to saturday's card,
1. Spark Of Bronte in the second race for win.
2. Timeless Treasure in the Seventh race for win.
Spark of Bronte ran a good race behind Mystic Quest last time out who went on to place third in the Fillies trial stakes.

Sunday 14th June Fillies Trial Stakes
Sunday seems to be a good race card of eight events with a quality field of 14 good three year old fillies taking part in the feature event of the day the Fillies Trial Stakes. Gypsy Magic stakes her claim on favoritism with her 3/4 lenght second in the PBMM behind Versaki despite running on the outer rails on the wide Mumbai track. Also having beaten Jacqueline in that race trainer Padmanabhan will be pretty confident of beating this field. On paper one cannot ignore the claims of Captivating on her sheer rating by the handicapper and this filly has not put a foot wrong except for that loss to Astral Flash in Mumbai which I would attribute to a tactical mistake by the Jockey for not letting her set her own pace with the race being run at a snails pace.
All said and done I nominate Gypsy Magic to make it first to the finish provided her trainer has been able to get her to improve her temperament which I think might be ok tomorrow as she will have good cover through out the race having a lower draw number and Captivating should follow her home. The dark horse here for a place chance at fancy odds would be Systematic who has been entered in the race as a final entry with the owner having to shell out a final entry fee and the manner in which she ran her last race suggests that she would relish the extra furlong in trip.
Having said all this about the feature event I get down to the two bets for the day :
1. Sans Pareil in the fourth race
2. Leave it to me in the seventh race
should win their respective races.
